Be water confident

As you work through each of these four stages you will focus on developing the follow key skills:

  • Entries and exits
  • Treading water
  • Rotation and orientation
  • Streamlining
  • Aquatic breathing
  • Sculling
  • Travel and coordination
  • Floatation
  • Stamina
  • Submersion
  • Water safety

It’s a good idea to talk to your swimming teacher before you start about what you want to get out of lessons.

Although each of the four stages has a number of outcomes, not all outcomes will need to be achieved to move onto the next stage; as they are not compulsory.

Adult learn to swim is about flexibility. The swimming teacher will select the required outcomes based your individual goals.
